Local Favorite - Pearl of the Ocean
Pearl of the Ocean is one of my new favorites. We just rediscovered it a few months ago. The location is easy to get to on Water Street near downtown, though from the exterior, you would never think it is a great restaurant. Though the atmosphere is mediocre, the food is outstanding. Chef Ayoma Wilen creates the recipes and usually welcomes you at the door. The restaurant serves Sri Lankan cuisine and is all organic! They source local ingredients whenever possible and some special ingredients are imported from Sri Lanka. There are so many vegan options! I like to start with the Pakoras, which are seasonable vegetables deep fried in chickpea batter. My husband enjoys the rice with mixed vegetables and I love the Sri Lankan vegetable plate. Be careful with the level of spice though, the spicy options can make you cry!
